The presentation of scars is categorized into two major forms :

• Atrophic scar— This type of scar forms due to insufficient collagen production and typically appears as box scars, ice pick scars, or rolling scars.
• Box scar— As the name suggests, box scars are broad, round or oval depressions with sharply defined edges, usually caused by chickenpox or severe acne. They are wider and less deep, making them easier to treat.
• Ice pick scars— Ice pick scars are very narrow but extend deep into the dermis due to insufficient collagen production. Though small in appearance—often resembling enlarged pores—they are among the most difficult scars to treat. These deep puncture-like marks typically result from cystic acne that has caused intense inflammation and damage to the deeper layers of the skin.
• Rolling scars — Rolling scars, like box scars, are shallow but have sloping, poorly defined edges, often resembling waves or valleys. They become less visible when the skin is stretched. These scars form when fibrous bands beneath the skin pull it downward, creating a rolling, uneven surface.
